What's Going On With Pennies?
You may have noticed fewer pennies in your change lately. There's a reason. On November 12, 2025, the U.S. Mint officially stopped producing pennies, since it costs 3.69 cents just to produce a single penny. As a result, banks can no longer order pennies like we used to.
Here's what you can expect:
- Rolls of pennies may be limited or no longer available for cash withdrawals. This will vary by location while supplies last.
- We will continue to accept rolled pennies for deposit.
- You may still receive pennies in your change or cash back while supplies last.
Are pennies still legal tender?
- Yes. Even though new pennies are no longer being produced, all existing pennies remain legal currency and can still be spent, used as change, or deposited.
Does this affect other coins?
- No. Nickels, dimes, and quarters remain in full production.
Will State Savings Bank still accept pennies?
- Yes, we will continue to accept rolled pennies for deposit.
What you can do:
- Bring in your extra pennies. Be sure to roll them so they are ready for deposit.
- Use exact change when possible to keep transactions smooth.
- Take advantage of digital payments when it is convenient for you.
